Three things a drip machine cannot do
Pours into the center
Water reaches the coffee bed through a five-hole shower head aimed at the middle, and the pump changes speed from one pour to the next. You get staged pours into a cone, not one long spray over a flat basket.
Heats to your number
Set the water anywhere from 80 to 96°C. Go lower for dark roasts that turn harsh when brewed hot, higher for light roasts that need the heat to taste sweet.
Weighs as it goes
A built-in scale tracks the water, and ten flow speeds run from 3 to 12 ml (about 0.1 to 0.4 oz) per second. A slow pour stretches contact time; a fast one keeps the cup light.

All three presets use a 1:16 coffee to water ratio, so weigh your dose to match. The machine does not grind; the beans come from your own grinder.
The phone is optional
You do not need the app to make coffee. Eighteen preset recipes are built in, and the S, M and L sizes run straight from the machine.
The adol app opens up the rest. It generates a personal pour over recipe, and it lets you set the water temperature, the volume of each pour and the flow speed yourself. Save one recipe for the washed Ethiopian and another for the dark roast, and each brews the same way every time. The app also mutes the beeps; the ambient light on the machine stays on.

Can I use my own dripper and filters?
Yes. The machine brews with other drippers, though it is tuned for the HARIO V60 02 and server in the box, and a different dripper will change the flavor. For the V60, use size 02 cone papers such as our HARIO V60 paper filters.
Is automatic pour over better than a drip coffee maker?
It is closer to hand pour over than to drip. A basket drip machine sprays water over a flat bed on a fixed schedule. This one pours in stages into a cone, at the temperature and speed you choose, and weighs the water as it goes. That is what gives V60 coffee its clean, bright cup.
Does it keep coffee warm or start on a timer?
No to both. There is no warming function and no scheduled start, because ground coffee left out in the air loses flavor and freshness. Grind, load and press the button when you are ready to drink.
How do I clean and descale it?
Run the descale mode with citric acid, from the machine or the adol app. Only water and citric acid go in the tank, since anything else can clog the brew head. Brew with filtered water to slow scale, and expect the cleaning light after every 200 cups. The machine turns itself off after 10 minutes on standby when no phone is connected.
