Rotary needle for even espresso pucksTurn it, stir the grounds, then tamp on an even bed.
The MUVNA Z10 is a rotary WDT tool sized for 58mm espresso baskets, and its job is to untangle clumped grounds before you tamp. Twist the top and its needles sweep through the fresh coffee, leaving a loose, even bed. At 8.3 cm wide and 5.8 cm tall (3.27 by 2.28 inches) in Midnight Black, it suits home baristas whose shots spurt or run unevenly.
- Rotary needles stir the whole bed
- Sized for 58mm baskets
- Fewer clumps, less channeling
- Midnight Black finish

What clumps do to a shot
Tamping straight from the grinder
- Clumps leave dense and loose pockets in the basket
- Brew water races through the weakest spots
- The shot tastes sour in places and bitter in others
Stirring with the needles first
- The rotating needles pull the clumps apart
- Grounds settle into one even layer
- Every part of the puck slows the brew equally
That stirring step is the Weiss Distribution Technique, shortened to WDT.

From grinder to tamp in four moves
-
Fill the basket
Let the grinder drop the dose you already use straight into the 58mm basket.
-
Seat the tool
Set the tool on the basket so the needles reach down into the grounds.
-
Turn the top
Rotate it several times in one direction. The needles sweep through the coffee and break up clumps on every pass.
-
Lift, then tamp
Lift the tool straight up, give the portafilter a light tap if the surface looks uneven, and tamp as you normally would.

Made for 58mm baskets only. A smaller basket from a compact home machine leaves this tool sitting loose. Measure the inside of yours, or look up your machine's basket size, first.
The details
Straight answers
Do I really need a WDT tool for espresso?
You need one if your grinder leaves clumps or your shots channel. A WDT tool stirs the grounds so the bed has the same density from edge to edge, which helps water flow through it evenly.
Will it fit my portafilter?
Yes, if your basket measures 58mm, a size common on prosumer and commercial-style machines. Smaller baskets leave it unseated. For a different basket, look at the auto-rotating needle from IKAPE, which comes in more basket sizes.
Is a needle the same as a coffee leveler?
No. Needles stir and declump the coffee through the whole depth of the bed, while a flat leveler only smooths the top.
Do I still need to tamp after using it?
Yes. Stirring only loosens and evens the grounds, so you still press them firm with your tamper.
Who it suits
A good pick if you
- Pull shots on a machine with a 58mm portafilter
- Spot clumps in your grounds or spurts from a bottomless portafilter
- Want a rotary tool instead of stirring by hand with a single needle
Look elsewhere if you
- Brew on a machine with a smaller basket
- Would rather smooth and compress the coffee with one device, such as the 2-in-1 leveler with a tamping side
Stir before you tamp
