IKAPE KAPO K2 portable espresso machineA 51mm bottomless basket, a 20 bar pump and a heater in a thermos-size body.
The KAPO K2 is a cordless portable espresso machine, 22.4 cm tall and 7.3 cm across (8.8 x 2.9 in), that heats room-temperature water itself and pushes it at 20 bar through a 51mm bottomless basket holding 14 to 18 g of ground coffee. A Bluetooth app sets temperature, pre-infusion and shot time. It is for home baristas who grind their own beans and want the same kind of shot at a campsite, in the car or at the office.
- Self-heating

Built like a small semi-automatic
The 51mm brew head
IKAPE built the K2 around a 51mm brew head with an evenly distributed mesh screen and a removable bottomless portafilter. You watch the shot from below, and you can swap in other single-shot or high-extraction baskets.
The heater
Fill it with room-temperature water and it heats the water itself, to 96°C (205°F) by IKAPE's rating, in about 3 minutes for 50 ml (1.7 oz). No kettle, no thermos.
Pre-infusion
Every shot opens with a 3 to 5 second pre-infusion that wets the puck before full pressure. That cuts channeling and lets trapped gas escape, so the shot runs more evenly.
What one charge gives you
It recharges by USB cable, from a computer or a car outlet.
What the phone controls
The K2 pairs over Bluetooth with IKAPE's HappyGo CERA app. From there you can:
- Set the heating temperature and watch the extraction temperature change in real time.
- Set pre-infusion from 0 to 10 seconds, and set the extraction time.
- Schedule a brew at home, so the shot is ready when you are.
Four settings for a first good shot
-
Fresh medium-dark beans
IKAPE recommends fresh medium-dark roast beans for a richer crema.
-
Dose 16 to 18 g
Start at 16 g in the 51mm basket. Tamp only with coffee in it: the basket tapers, and a tamper pressed into an empty basket can get stuck.
-
Semi-automatic grind
Grind at the setting you would use on a home semi-automatic espresso machine, not finer. If the shot struggles to come through, go coarser.
-
At least 50 ml of water
The machine uses 15 to 20 ml during extraction, so 50 ml of water gives roughly 30 to 35 ml (about 1 to 1.2 oz) of espresso.
Ground coffee only, ground for espresso. The K2 has a basket, not a capsule holder, and it wants a true espresso grind. If you do not own a grinder that goes that fine, plan for one, such as the IKAPE portable electric grinder. Puck tools must be 51mm too, like the 51mm version of our auto-rotating WDT tool.
A fair read
This one is for you if
- You grind your own beans and want a real basket, not a pod.
- You want hot espresso where there is no kettle: the trail, the car, the desk.
- You like to adjust temperature and pre-infusion instead of living with one setting.
Look elsewhere if
- You want capsules. The OutIn Nano and Mino also heat their own water and take Nespresso Original pods as well as grounds.
- You want nothing to charge. A manual hand-pump maker is simpler, as long as you carry hot water.
The numbers
Answered plainly
Can the KAPO K2 use capsules?
No. It brews ground coffee only, in the 51mm bottomless basket. If pods matter to you, choose a capsule-compatible portable maker instead.
How many shots before it needs a charge?
About 6 to 8 from room-temperature water, because the battery also heats the water. Start with hot water and IKAPE rates it at up to 500 cups per charge.
Can I take it on a plane?
Usually, in your carry-on. IKAPE rates the battery at 49.95 Wh, under the 100 Wh limit that applies to most carry-on batteries. Check your airline's rules before you fly, and do not brew on board.
Can I make iced coffee with it?
Yes. Pull the shot hot, straight over ice, as the base for an iced americano or an iced latte.
