Spring loaded espresso tamper with a ripple baseA spring sets the force, a collar keeps it level.
This espresso tamper from IKAPE hides a calibrated spring inside an acrylic handle, so every press lands with the same force. A collar sits on the portafilter rim and holds the stainless steel ripple base flat. It suits home baristas who would rather not judge pressure by hand, with a small 51 mm (2.01 in) base, a middle 53.3 mm (2.1 in) one and a large base whose photo reads 58.5 mm (2.3 in).
- Calibrated spring, same force each press
- Collar rests on the rim
- Ripple stainless steel base
- Three base sizes, two finishes

Hand pressure or a calibrated spring
Tamping by feel
- Force shifts with grip and fatigue
- A slight tilt packs one side tighter
- Shots from the same beans pull differently
With this spring
- The spring sets the force, not your arm
- The collar holds the base flat on the rim
- The ripple base grooves the coffee bed
Grind and dose still decide the flavor.
Size it to the basket
Base size follows the filter basket inside your portafilter, whatever brand of machine it clips into. Look up the basket diameter in your manual, or measure across the opening just below the lip. One note on the large option: the selector names it 58.35mm, while its dimensions photo reads 58.5 mm (2.3 in).

Four moves to a pressed puck
-
Dose
Grind into the basket. A magnetic dosing funnel stops spills over the rim.
-
Stir
Break up clumps with a rotating WDT tool so the bed sits even.
-
Press to the collar
Set the base on the grounds, handle upright, and push until the collar meets the rim. A tamping station steadies the portafilter.
-
Lift straight
Pull the tamper up without twisting, then lock in and brew.

Skip it if you

- Have not confirmed your basket size yet

The details
Before you choose
Which base size fits my portafilter?
Match the base to the inside width of your filter basket, so the steel edge of the espresso tamper slips just within the wall. The small option measures 51 mm (2.01 in) across, the middle one 53.3 mm (2.1 in), and the large one is labeled 58.35mm in the selector.
Does a spring loaded tamper beat a regular one?
For consistency, yes. A regular tamper relies on how hard you push. Here a calibrated spring sets the force, so it repeats from shot to shot. You give up the option to dial pressure yourself.
Does the ripple base change the shot?
It changes the surface of the puck. The concentric ripples press fine grooves into the coffee bed, meant to help water soak in evenly. Grind size and dose matter more.
Is the handle glass?
No. The handle is acrylic in a clear or translucent finish, and the spring shows through it. The base is stainless steel.
