Heated lever espresso

Flair 58 Plus 2 manual lever espresso machineYour hand on the lever, a gauge in view, and a group that stays hot.

The Flair 58 Plus 2 is a manual espresso machine that puts every shot under your own hand. It pairs a lever and a built-in pressure gauge with an electrically heated 58 mm (2.28 in) group head set to Low, Medium or High. It suits home espresso lovers who enjoy shaping pressure themselves.

  • Heated group, three settings
  • Built-in pressure gauge
  • Takes standard commercial tools
  • Controller built into the base
How it works

A lever, a gauge and a group that holds its heat

A lever machine puts you where the pump would be. You lock the bottomless portafilter under the group, fill the brew cylinder and press down. The gauge shows what your arm is doing, so you can build pressure slowly, hold it, or ease off as the shot ends.

Heat is the point of the Plus 2. A cold metal group pulls warmth from the water before it reaches the coffee. An electric heating system keeps this group warm through the whole extraction, at the level your beans need.

The controller sits inside the base, so no separate box trails wires across your counter. An updated plunger valve gives smoother flow and quicker cylinder filling.

Three heat settings

Match the group to your roast

For dark roasts

Dark beans give up flavor easily and turn bitter when pushed hot. Low keeps the group warm without overdoing it, which suits heavier, chocolate-leaning shots.

For medium roasts

The everyday setting for a balanced, sweet shot. Start here with a new bag and move up or down by taste.

For light roasts

Light roasts are dense and slow to extract. High gives them the heat they ask for, so the cup tastes bright rather than sour.

Why it stands apart

Three things you control here

Pressure you can see

The gauge sits in plain view while you pull. Soft pre-infusion, a firm peak, a slow taper: you shape the curve live, one shot at a time.

Café-size group

The 58 mm (2.28 in) group is the standard commercial size, so most tampers, distributors and baskets made for it are a match.

Walnut and a tidy counter

Dark walnut on the lever handle, portafilter and tamper, with the controller tucked into the base for a clean coffee bar.

Set the magnetic shot mirror under the bottomless portafilter to watch the flow as you pull.

First shot

From the box to the first cup

  • Set it up

Place the base on a level counter, fit the drip tray and connect the power adapter and cables.

  • Warm the group

Pick Low, Medium or High and let the group head preheat while you grind.

  • Prepare the puck

Dose fine coffee into the portafilter, tamp with the walnut tamper and lay the puck screen on top to spread water and keep the group clean.

  • Fill and pull

Lock in the portafilter, pour hot water into the cylinder, position the mirror and pull while you watch the needle.

Plan for a grinder and a kettle

This machine only brews. You need a grinder fine enough for espresso and a kettle for hot water, and neither is in the kit. Have both ready before it arrives.

Is it for you

A fair read

A strong pick if

  • You want to steer pressure by hand and see it on a gauge
  • You drink light roasts and want the heat to keep up
  • You own standard commercial-size tools or plan to build that kit
  • You like a tidy counter with walnut touches

Questions buyers ask

Before your first pull

Is a manual espresso machine hard to learn?

Not hard, but it takes a few bags of practice. The gauge removes most of the guesswork, because you can see when pressure is low or spiking and adjust your grind or your pull. Most of the learning is in grind size, not the lever.

Does the Plus 2 steam milk?

No. This is an espresso-only machine with no steam wand or boiler in the kit list, so lattes and cappuccinos call for a separate milk frother.

Will my 58mm tamper and baskets fit?

Most will. The group is the standard commercial 58 mm (2.28 in) size that those tools are made around. Basket depth varies between brands, so check any unusual basket before you buy it.

Do I need a heated lever machine?

It matters most if you brew light roasts, which need more heat to extract. A heated group keeps temperature up through the shot. The Aleman 2S lever machine comes heated or unheated, which shows how much buyers weigh this choice.
