Why the cup changes color
The outer shell is printed with thermochromic ink, a pigment that goes clear below a set temperature. Cold from the drink passes through the steel wall, the white layer turns transparent, and the red artwork printed underneath shows through. Ice water gives the fastest and fullest change. A drink straight from the fridge works too, just a little slower. The web accents hold a charge from room light and glow softly once the lights go down.

Three things that ruin a color-changing cup

Hot drinks
Heat above the change point does nothing useful and, over time, damages the ink. Cold drinks only.

The dishwasher
High heat and detergent strip the coating. Hand wash with warm water and a soft sponge, and dry it upright.

Direct sun
Leaving it on a dashboard or a sunny windowsill wears the pigment out. Store it in a cupboard or on a desk.

Does it work with iced coffee and soda?
Yes. Anything cold enough triggers it: iced coffee, soda, juice, smoothies, water with ice. The colder the drink, the faster and fuller the change.
Does the color stop changing after a while?
Not with normal use. The three things that wear it out are heat, dishwasher detergent and direct sun. Avoid those and the effect keeps working.
Is it insulated?
It has a stainless steel inner wall and a coated outer shell, with no vacuum layer between them. That is by design: the cold has to reach the surface for the color to change. The steel keeps a drink cool for a while, not all day. For all-day cold, see our insulated bottles.
