Naked shot, no guesswork

This AIRFLOW bottomless portafilter has no spout, so espresso leaves the basket in plain view instead of hiding behind metal. Sized at 58mm (2.28 in) for E61 group heads, it pairs a flat mirror stainless steel body and two locking lugs with a wood grip. Anyone pulling shots on a 58mm E61 machine, at home or behind a cafe counter, can use it to diagnose and correct extraction. The filter basket is not included.

  • See flow and channeling live
  • Two lugs for 58mm E61 groups
  • Mirror stainless steel body
  • Warm wood grip in the hand
AIRFLOW Portafilter key features
Why go bottomless

The basket, seen from below

A spouted portafilter hides the basket. Coffee hits metal, gets redirected, and lands in the cup looking fine even when the puck has split. Take the spout away and the underside of the basket becomes a window.

On a good shot, drops form across the base, merge toward the center and fall as one steady stream. On a poor one you see it at once, and each sign points to something you can change on the next pull.

  • Side jets and spurts: channeling, often from clumps or an uneven tamp
  • Stream drifting off center: a tilted coffee bed
  • Pale streaks early: the grind may be too coarse
  • A slow, even cone: your dose and tamp are on track

It comes without a filter basket. The handle arrives as the steel frame and wood grip only. Without a basket it cannot hold coffee, so plan on a 58mm basket you already own or add one now. Check the size of your current basket first.

Who it suits

A good pick if you

  • Pull shots on a 58mm E61 machine and want to know why some taste sour or bitter
  • Are teaching yourself or a team to distribute and tamp evenly
  • Like polished steel and wood sitting on your drip tray

Look elsewhere if you

  • Split one extraction between two cups, since there is no spout to divide it
  • Run a compact machine with a smaller group head
  • Want a ready-to-brew kit with a basket in the box

Questions buyers ask

Straight answers

Does this bottomless portafilter come with a basket?

No. You get the handle without a filter basket, so you need a 58mm basket to brew. If you need one, our titanium 58mm precision basket is made in the same size.

Will it fit my espresso machine?

It fits machines with a 58mm E61 group head that takes a two-lug portafilter. Check your manual or measure the basket you use now. Compact machines with smaller groups need a different handle.

Is a naked portafilter messy?

Only when the shot goes wrong. A clean extraction falls in one stream. Channeling can flick small sprays onto the tray, which is the signal you want while learning. A short cup set close to the basket keeps things tidy.

What helps me get an even puck?

Pressing level and keeping the dose contained. For the first part, the AIRFLOW walnut tamper matches this wood grip. For the second, an AIRFLOW magnetic dosing ring stops coffee spilling over the rim as you distribute.
