IKAPE magnetic espresso toolA few gentle turns, then tamp onto a flat bed.
Set this IKAPE espresso leveler on a freshly dosed portafilter and give it a twist: loose grounds spread into one even layer, so your tamper presses a flat surface. You choose the head width to suit your basket, with 58.35 mm, roughly 2.3 inches, for full-size, 53.3 mm, roughly 2.1 inches, for mid-size and 51 mm, roughly 2.01 inches, for compact. A magnetic suspension structure and a double bearing keep the turn smooth, while adaptive height follows your dose, so home baristas never dial in a depth by hand.
- Adaptive height, no depth dial
- Magnetic suspension structure
- Double bearing for a smooth turn
- Three basket sizes
A leaning mound versus a flat bed
Tamping right after dosing
- The mound leans toward wherever the grinder spout aimed
- The tamper packs uneven pockets
- Water finds the loose spots and channels
Leveling first
- The angled base fills in the low areas
- A flat top meets the tamper
- Every shot starts from a repeatable bed
This tool shapes the top layer. Break up deeper clumps with needles before you spin it.
How the head moves
Magnetic suspension
Low friction from the magnetic structure means the head glides instead of dragging coffee outward.
Double bearing
Two bearings hold the rotation steady. A light twist of the wrist does it.
Adaptive height
It settles onto the coffee by itself. Change your dose and nothing needs resetting.
Three basket widths
Compact baskets
Mid-size baskets
Full-size baskets
Hold a ruler across your basket's opening and match that number, since the machine label can differ.
From grinder to puck
-
Dose
Grind your coffee in. A magnetic dosing funnel catches strays.
-
Rest it on the rim
Place the leveler on the basket and let its base drop onto the grounds.
-
Rotate
Turn it a few times. The multi-faceted base pushes coffee sideways until the top is flat.
-
Lift and press
Pull the tool straight up, then tamp.
The details
Straight answers
What does an espresso leveler do?
It evens out the top of your dose so the tamper presses down on a level layer. A level puck gives water no shortcut, which reduces channeling.
Which size do I need?
Go by diameter: take a ruler from one inner edge of the rim to the other and buy the head with that number. Full-size baskets take the 58.35 mm, mid-size ones the 53.3 mm, and compact ones the 51 mm.
Does this replace tamping?
No. It flattens the coffee without packing it down, so you still press with a tamper afterward.
Is a leveler the same as a WDT tool?
No. Needles break up clumps through the full depth of the dose, while this tool only shapes the top. Run an auto-rotating WDT tool first, then level.
