IKAPE auto-rotating WDT toolA spring spins the needles through your grounds. 51mm, 54mm or 58mm.
A WDT tool that does the stirring for you: press the top and a spring spins fine stainless steel needles through the coffee in your basket, breaking up clumps and evening out the bed before you tamp. Needle depth adjusts to your basket and dose, the body is matte black aluminum, and it comes in 51mm, 54mm and 58mm. For home baristas fighting fast, spraying or uneven shots.
- One-press auto rotation
- Adjustable needle depth
- Stainless steel needles
- 51, 54 or 58mm
Clumps cause channeling
Most grinders drop espresso grounds in small clumps. Tamp them as they are and the puck has dense spots and loose spots, and water under pressure takes the loose path. That is channeling: a fast, sour, uneven shot, sometimes with spray from a bottomless portafilter.
WDT, the Weiss Distribution Technique, fixes it by stirring the grounds with fine needles before you tamp. By hand, that means slow circles around the basket. Here the circles happen in one press: the spring turns the needle array, you lift, and the bed is loose and even.
Match the basket, not the machine brand
For 51mm baskets, including the one in the IKAPE KAPO K2 portable espresso machine.
For 54mm baskets on mid-size home espresso machines.
For 58mm baskets, the size on most prosumer and cafe machines.
Not sure which you have? Measure across the inside of the basket at the rim. The tool follows the basket diameter.
Set the needle depth once
-
Loosen the disc
Turn the top adjustment disc counterclockwise to free the central threaded rod.
-
Set the reach
Turn the rod clockwise or counterclockwise to extend or retract the needles until they reach close to the floor of your basket at your usual dose.
-
Lock it
Tighten the disc clockwise. The depth stays put until you change basket or dose.
Press gently
The spring does the work. A hard push can throw grounds over the rim. Set the portafilter in a tamping station and both hands are free for this tool and the tamper.
The details
Answered plainly
What is a WDT tool?
A needle tool for stirring espresso grounds in the basket before you tamp. It breaks up clumps so the puck has even density and water runs through it evenly.
Does WDT actually make a difference?
Yes, most of all with grinders that clump. Even density means fewer channels, which shows up as steadier shot times and less spraying from a bottomless portafilter.
Which size should I order?
The one that matches your basket: 51mm, 54mm or 58mm. Measure the inside of the basket rim if your machine's manual does not say.
Will the needles scratch my basket?
Not if the depth is set right. Adjust the needles so they stop just above the basket floor at your usual dose, which is what the depth setting is for.
