The numbers that matter
A fair read before you choose a color
This one is for you if
- You drink filter coffee by the mug, several cups a morning.
- You want the pot ready when you come down to the kitchen.
- You want it to match the room: Cream, Black, Pastel blue, Pastel green, Red or Silver.
Look elsewhere if
- You want espresso and milk drinks. This is a drip filter machine; the SMEG ECF03 is SMEG's espresso machine.
- You brew one cup at a time. A pour-over dripper from our drippers suits a single mug better.
Use a drip grind
Buy coffee ground for filter or drip machines, or grind whole beans to a medium setting. Very fine coffee slows the flow through a permanent filter and tastes bitter. SMEG's CGF03 burr grinder covers drip grinds and matches the 50s look.
The details
Answered plainly
Is a SMEG drip coffee machine worth it?
If you brew a pot most mornings and care how the kitchen looks, yes. It does the job of a plain drip machine and adds an auto-start timer, two strength settings and a permanent filter, in a body designed to stay out on the counter.
Does it need paper filters?
No. It comes with a reusable permanent filter. Tip out the grounds and rinse it after each pot.
Can I pour a cup before the pot is finished?
Yes. The anti-drip system holds the coffee back while the carafe is out, so you can pour a cup and slide the carafe back in.
How long does it keep the coffee hot?
Up to 40 minutes after brewing. After that the hot plate stops, so pour the last cups into a thermal carafe if you drink slowly.
