La Marzocco GS3 Espresso Machine, MP Paddle or AV Volumetric
Guaranteed Safe Checkout
La Marzocco GS3One dual boiler home machine, two ways to run the shot: MP paddle or AV buttons.
The GS3 is La Marzocco's dual boiler espresso machine for the home, built from café parts: an exposed saturated group, dual PID on the coffee and steam boilers, a 3.5 L (118 oz) steam boiler and an internal pump. It runs from its own 3.5 L tank or from a water line and takes 41 cm (16.1 in) of counter width. Choose GS3 MP for a mechanical paddle you work by hand, or GS3 AV for programmed doses that repeat on a button.

GS3 MP or GS3 AV
You run every stage
A paddle on the group works the pump and a conical valve. Start, pre-infusion, pressure ramp and finish are all in your hand.
The machine repeats your recipe
A flowmeter counts the water to the group. Program a dose once and the button pours it again, with a set pre-infusion if you want one.
La Marzocco's own view: neither version pulls a better shot. The choice rests on how the person at the machine likes to work.
How each version controls the water
GS3 MP
Move the paddle left and a microswitch starts the pump. A conical valve opens as the paddle travels, so more water reaches the coffee the further you go. Hold it partway for a gentle pre-infusion, open it fully to brew, bring it back to end the shot. It takes practice, and it pays you back for it.
GS3 AV
A small wheel called a flowmeter sits on the cold-water side of the boiler and spins as water passes. The AV counts those turns, so a programmed button sends the same amount of water every time. Pre-infusion lives in the program: for example 4 seconds of pre-infusion, 5 seconds of rest, then the shot.
Both versions share the digital display with temperature, shot timers and a flow pulse counter, a pre-heating system that warms incoming water before it enters the coffee boiler, and ruby flow restrictors that resist scale.
Tank, water line and counter
On the tank
The integrated 3.5 L (118 oz) tank makes plumbing optional. The internal pump draws from it, so the GS3 needs no water line to brew.
Plumbed in
Connect it to a water line and stop refilling. The machine is built for both, so you can start on the tank and plumb it later.
Measure the spot first
The GS3 stands 35.5 cm (14 in) tall, 41 cm (16.1 in) wide and 53 cm (21 in) deep. Leave working room in front for the portafilter and a milk pitcher. Short on space? The La Marzocco Linea Micra is the compact home machine in the range.
The details
Answered plainly
Can you do pre-infusion on the La Marzocco GS3 AV?
Yes. The AV lets you program it, for example 4 seconds of pre-infusion and a 5 second rest before the shot runs. On the MP you do the same by hand, holding the paddle partway.
Does the GS3 MP make better espresso than the GS3 AV?
No. La Marzocco says the choice rests on the barista's preferences, not on shot quality. Same boilers, same group, different control.
Do I need to plumb the GS3?
No. The 3.5 L tank makes plumbing optional. Plumb it when you would rather not refill.
Can I brew and steam at the same time?
Yes. Separate boilers handle espresso and steam, each on its own PID, so the steam wand is ready while a shot runs.
What grinder suits it?
One with fine, repeatable espresso adjustment. The Eureka Mignon Libra grinds by weight, a good match for the repeatable doses of the GS3 AV.
