The De'Longhi Magnifica S is a fully automatic espresso machine: a built-in conical burr grinder, a 250 g (8.8 oz) bean hopper and a 15 bar pump in one body, fed by a 1.8 L (61 oz) water tank. Fill it
Whole beans go into the hopper on top, fresh water into the tank. A water filter fits in the tank if your water is hard.

Set strength and length
Turn the aroma dial toward mild or strong and set how much coffee lands in the cup. Cup lengths are programmable, so you set them once.

The grinder grinds the dose right before brewing and the pump pushes water through it. Twin-Shot fills two cups side by side.

Check the depth and the height before you buy
The Magnifica S is only 23 cm (9.1 in) wide, but it is 43 cm (16.9 in) deep and 34 cm (13.4 in) tall. Measure your counter depth, and if it will sit under wall cabinets, leave room above to open the hopper lid and pour in beans. The spout clears cups up to 142 mm (5.6 in), so very tall latte glasses will not fit under it.

Can the Magnifica S make lattes and cappuccinos?
Yes, with your hand on the milk. It brews the espresso automatically, and you froth the milk in a pitcher with the traditional frother. This model has no automatic milk carafe.
Is it a good machine for someone new to espresso?
Yes, that is who it suits best. There is no dosing, tamping or shot timing to learn. Set strength and cup length once, and move the grinder a step finer or coarser if the coffee tastes thin or bitter.
Can I use pre-ground coffee?
Yes. De'Longhi lists pre-ground coffee as an option, so an evening decaf does not mean emptying the hopper. For everyday cups, beans ground to order taste fresher, which is the reason to buy a machine with a grinder.
Does it brew two cups at the same time?
Yes. The Twin-Shot function brews two espressos side by side, and the two-cup option works for long coffee too.
How do I keep it running well?
Set your water hardness, fit a water filter, and descale on the schedule the machine follows. Rinse the removable brew unit under the tap, empty the grounds container and drip tray often, and put the drip tray grid in the dishwasher. The De'Longhi EcoDecalk descaler is De'Longhi's own.
