Rotary press leveler

A flat espresso bed before every tampSet it in the basket, press, turn, and lift off a level puck.

This IKAPE rotary coffee leveler presses grounds flat inside your portafilter basket ahead of the tamp, so water meets an even bed. Heads come in 51mm, 53.3mm and 58.35mm (2.01, 2.1 and 2.3 inches), and each version stands 112mm (4.41 in) tall. Reach for it if you make espresso in your kitchen and keep losing shots to spurts and uneven flow.

  • Three head sizes, one per basket width
  • Even bed before the tamp
  • Helps cut channeling and spurts
  • Compact, 112mm (4.41 in) tall

Measure the basket, not the machine

Read the inside width at the rim of the basket you actually use. If it lands between two heads, check the basket maker's figure rather than rounding.

How it works

Where the leveler sits in your puck prep

Grounds land as a mound, deep in the middle and thin at the rim. Tamp that and water rushes through the thin spots, which is channeling: a fast, sour shot or a jet under the basket.

Dose, set the head in the basket, press down and turn, then lift it off and tamp straight. For heavy clumps, start with a WDT needle tool.

Fair read

Who it suits

A good fit if you

  • Brew shots daily and like each puck to begin level before the tamp
  • Know your basket width and it matches one of the heads

Look elsewhere if you

  • Switch between several basket sizes and expect one head to cover them
  • Prefer one combined gadget for both jobs, such as the Macaron leveler and tamper

Questions buyers ask

Straight answers

What size coffee leveler do I need?

Go by the basket width. Read the inside diameter at its rim: small baskets take the 51mm head (2.01 in), mid-size ones the 53.3mm head (2.1 in), and wide ones the 58.35mm head (2.3 in).

Does an espresso tool fix channeling?

It helps with one cause, an uneven bed. Clumps and a crooked tamp can still send water down a fast path.

Can this replace my tamper?

No. It flattens the grounds, and you still compress them with your tamper afterward.

Which IKAPE model is this listing?

The rotary press one. You push it down, twist, and lift it away.
